Avoid Coronavirus Scams
  • Don't respond to texts, emails or calls about checks from the government
  • Ignore online offers for vaccinations and home test kits.  There are no products proven to treat or prevent COVID-19 at this time
  • Hang up on robocalls.  Scammers are using illegal robocalls to pitch everything from low-priced health insurance to work-at-home schemes
  • Watch for emails claiming to be from CDC or WHO.  Use sites like coronavirus.gov or usa.gov/coronavirus to get the latest info
  • Do you homework when it comes to donations.  Never donate in cash, by gift card, or by wiring money

Price gouging is ILLEGAL, and Californians are protected.  If you experience illegal price gouging on housing, gas, food, or other essentials, submit a complaint to http://oag.ca.gov/report or call 1-800-952-5225

  • The grocery chain Raley's said it would give away daily $20 bags of food to seniors and at-risk customers. Raleys.com
  • A Sikh group with chapters across California offered to do shopping runs for elderly or immunocompromised persons. Instagram
  • A charity teamed up with a BBQ joint in Bakersfield to deliver plates of food to vulnerable people. Bakersfield Californian
  • Target, Dollar General, Northgate, Safeway markets, and other retailers said they would set aside hours for senior citizens
