Political Action Committee
In 2008 the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce started a new Political Action Committee (PAC) in order to enhance our toolset as we engage in Berkeley's often contentious policy debate. Until the PACs inception, the Berkeley Chamber has remained relatively obscure in its political actions and our intentions with the initiation of this PAC is to directly engage the Berkeley process on issues important to business in general and our membership in specific. The Chamber's primary objectives are determined by the Board of the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce with input from our members and other key constituents of our community. These objectives are best expressed by reviewing our 3 Visioning Committees - Vibrant Business, Smart Growth, Research Institution Partnerships. For more details on each particular committee, View the Chamber's Visioning Statements.
The PAC enables the Chamber to take its message directly to the people of Berkeley on issues that are important to Berkeley Businesses. Every effort made by the PAC stems directly from a position taken by the Chamber of Commerce. Among other things, the PAC may support or oppose specific issues or candidates for public office and it may finance educational efforts intended to let Berkeley citizens know some of the challenges businesses face in Berkeley and even our thoughts on hoped for resolutions.
