• Berkely Protest Update

  • December 16, 2014

    To all of our Members:

There are new protests scheduled for this evening (Tuesday).  Although some of the protesters will gather as usual at Telegraph and Bancroft, the destination is different tonight.  They will be headed to Longfellow School, at Derby and California streets, and join other groups that plan to speak to (and potentially disrupt) the City Council meeting there.

We do not know the route planned to get there nor can we predict what might happen after the Council adjourns.  The meeting will start at 5:30 and will continue into the evening.

With this uncertainty, it may again be useful to bring any moveable article inside and remove attractive items from you windows.  Also bring in trash containers to remove fire hazards.

The Chamber supports our patient and professional Berkeley Police Officers and the peaceful protesters who join us in abhorring the institutional racism that exists in this country but reject violence as an attempt at a solution.

In case of emergency call 911 or the police at 981-5911.

You can follow the progress of events as they happen at    https://local.nixle.com/city/ca/berkeley/

    Stay safe and dry tonight.
